Get rid of the Clutter
One of the most common things that I come across when looking at so called “broken” PC’s is quite simply the amount of random crap scattered across it. It seems that people will install anything they can get their hands on with out ever bothering to tidy up or checking what it does or even if they need it. Soon they begin to notice that’s slowing down or the internet is slow – well you shouldn’t really have 50+ start-up applications should you!
Funnily enough they also run out of Disk space after having never cleaned out their cache , old files or recycle bin AAAAAAAARRRRRGH!

I’ve been doing Windows 7 builds for the past month now.
Suprising how people would rather pay £600+ for a new machine rather than running maintenance on their current ones.

I’m not exactly immune to this, the number of times I’ve let my boot slice reach 0K has hit the second handful of fingers now.

@Zak
True enough – I have 3 Win 7′s and an XP and a Puppylinux at the moment and it works fine on my old machine (very well in fact) it’s amazing how well a PC can run when it’s not full of shit.

Worse things have happened, like fixing a friends laptop and accidentally stumbling over their homemade porn. A combination of them not naming and placing the folder somewhere sensible and that lovely windows feature that automatically previews images in image folders means I now know what they look like when they’re ready to go at it. But yes, they did install everything everywhere as well, there were executables and DLL’s all over the place on that one.

ooooh yes that could be rather unnerving – conversations in the future are always going to be tense…..
